Watch this video of the latest Takagi operating microscope OM-19, used during cataract surgery at Chukyo Hospital in Japan. The trial has been an absolute success for the Takagi OM-19 in comparison to other surgical microscopes, as proven by its unique features and ergonomics to be one in a million.
The benefits of independent light intensity adjustment in surgical microscopes have been tested during this trial, together with optical features and usability. What Takagi have introduced to the market is completely unique, the first operating microscope in the world with independent LEDs for the red reflex and coaxial illumination. Other manufacturers use one single light source for both coaxial and rex reflex, Takagi uses independent LEDs with specific colour temperature and controllability for each. A landmark in Japanese engineering for medical instruments.
LEDs for the red reflex illumination are specifically designed using a colour temperature with a lower blue peak, in this way the risk of illumination damage to the retina is minimal. Furthermore, the reflection from the fundus brings the natural red colour of the reflex, allowing the cataract lens to be perfectly visible for extraction. Throughout the entire cataract procedure, as shown in the video, the surgeon’s view remains crystal clear and vibrant from the phacoemulsification process to the intraocular lens replacement.
Coaxial illumination for the OM-19 has yet another colour balance, as part of the engineering design to achieve maximum viewing efficiency during surgery. The two illumination systems can be used individually depending on the surgery type, or simultaneously for an optimised 3D image. The intensity of the LEDs is easily adjustable in nine separate steps, from the operation panel.
When both illuminations are used simultaneously the image is bright and sharp and allows the surgeon to have a clear view during the entire surgical procedure.
The characteristics of the LEDs illumination system is designed to suit the surgeon’s unique preferences and to adapt to the type of surgery performed.
The precision engineering and accuracy of our products Made in Japan is seen throughout the full range of Takagi products.
